The Greatest Classroom is at the Feet of an Older Person

The Greatest Classroom is at the Feet of an Older Person posters (pdf 661kb)

This project, launched at Seniors Week 2007 is a campaign designed to challenge social attitudes towards Older People. The campaign involved the creation of four distinct posters. You can view them on the link to the right.

The four posters are a culmination of ongoing discussion within the Taskforce about the frustration older people feel in facing social stereotypes about older people. Members of the ATF feel this in daily activities: going to the shops, catching the bus, and buying groceries. Each poster features a member of the Aged Taskforce, and the text and content of the posters are a collaborative effort of our group.

The posters aim to act as a poignant reminder that older people are living in our community with rich history, tradition, wisdom and experience. They will be distributed throughout the Wollongong LGA to over 500 businesses and services, accompanied with a factsheet about providing accessible services to older people.

The Taskforce will continue to challenge social attitudes towards older people, and promote the vital contribution we make to our community through our ongoing activities.

We would like to thank the following organisations and individuals who helped make this project possible:

- Our photographer, Bernie Fischer

- The Wollongong School of Creative Living, and the Wollongong U3A

- The Department of Disability, Home Care and Ageing

- And the Wollongong City Council

- The 'faces' of the posters: Pauline, Pam, Jeff, Nancie, Carla, and Norm,

If your organisation would like a copy of a poster to display, please contact Healthy Cities on 4226 5000 or programs@healthycitiesill.org.au
