Men's Project

This project has been made possible by a grant from the NSW Government - Illawarra Area Assistance Scheme. The project is being coordinated by Healthy Cities Illawarra and the Illawarra Multicultural Health Service with the venue being provided by the Wollongong Centre for Employment and Training (WCET).

The aim of the project is to engage men in practical skills based activities which will reduce loneliness, increase self esteem and build a sense of purpose. The group is supported by a community cultural development officer who supervises, trains, facilitates and supports the men’s group.

The group meets on a weekly basis and is developing skills in a range of technical, creative and art areas. It is planned that as the project progresses and as skills develop and the group evolves they will produce more significant pieces of work which contribute to community spaces throughout the Southern Wollongong LGA. The men are drawn from a range of social and cultural backgrounds, are over 40 years of age and unemployed.
