2003 AGED PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION

(HEALTHY CITIES ILLAWARRA AGED TASK FORCE)

Having the Time of Her Life

Healthy Cities Illawarra, Aged Task force is calling for entries to its ‘Time Of Our Lives’ photographic competition, which celebrates older people enjoying life. The competition will culminate in an exhibition at the Old Courthouse in early October to commemorate International Day of Older Persons.

“Amateur photographers of all ages are encouraged to start snapping their grandparents, relatives and friends having the time of their lives, “ said Norm Melvin, amateur photographer and member of the Aged Task Force. ”We are particularly keen to encourage school children, TAFE and University students to enter.”

“We are looking for a wide range of entries with photos showing seniors enjoying life in the Illawarra. Photographs could be of walking, fishing, baking bread, a chess game or playing with grandchildren,” said Norm Melvin.

Every picture tells a story and Nancie Melvin is clearly having a wonderful time with Lauren her youngest grandchild, in the above photograph taken by her husband Norm. Nancie raised four of her own children before attending university to become a primary school teacher. While spending time with her eight grandchildren is a priority, Nancie also travels lectures at the University of the Third Age and researches family history.

Experienced photographers including a member of the Federation of Camera Clubs and senior members of the Aged Task Force will judge the competition. There are terrific prizes to be won including a $100 voucher for first prize. All entries will receive a certificate of recognition and be displayed at an exhibition in the Old Courthouse running for four days from October 1st.

People seeking more details and entry forms are asked to call Healthy Cities Illawarra on 42265000. The closing date for entries is 31st of August 2003.
