HEALTHY CITIES ILLAWARRA’S
14TH ANNUAL AWARDS PRESENTATION
The region’s quiet achievers will be recognised at a gala
presentation at the Novotel Northbeach, Wollongong, this Tuesday 27th
May commencing at 10am.
Healthy Cities Illawarra Manager, Frank Wallner, will announce the presentation
of 54 awards to individuals and community groups which recognise their
hard work and contribution to creating a Healthy City.
Certificates will be presented in the following categories:
- Fundraising
- Volunteer work
- Community Aid and Services
- Environment, Heritage and Culture
“These awards are a way of showing our appreciation by acknowledging
the efforts of many people who have voluntarily assisted in enhancing
the overall quality of life for our community” Mr Wallner said.
Wollongong’s Lord Mayor, Alex Darling, will present 12 Community
Aid and Services Awards to a number of organisations including the Illawarra
Muslim Women’s Association for donations of hampers to refugees
in Afghanistan, the Novotel Northbeach for donating blankets to the Smith
Family, and the Illawarra Oral/Dental Health Action Group for lobbying
the Federal Government to urgently find funds for public dental health.
Kiama Mayor, Sandra McCarthy will present awards to the Gerringong Piano
Fund Committee for fundraising to purchase a new piano for the Gerringong
Town Hall and Members of the BHP Employees Community Initiative to acknowledge
their fundraising for the Illawarra Palliative Care Unit.
The Older Women’s Network Singing Group will entertain guests throughout
the morning.
“These are people who work not for reward or recognition, but because
they want to make a difference to the lives and well-being of others.
It is great to be able to say thanks and well done. It is these efforts
which are the basis to creating a healthy, happy community” Mr Wallner
said.
