‘FOOD FAIRNESS FORUM ’

A day to work towards a local understanding of food fairness and encourage collaborative action.

Food security has been defined as a state in which there is an adequate supply of nutritious food available locally and where individuals posses the financial and personal skills and resources required to obtain and use that food (Booth and Smith 2001).

Aims of Forum

  • To raise awareness and understanding of food security in the Illawarra.
  • To highlight awareness of local food security issues, particularly the need for culturally appropriate food on a regular and reliable basis for people living on the margins.
  • To establish how poverty and food security are related.
  • To develop a local coalition - a Food Fairness Interagency - to work towards development of programs promoting food security and secure sustainable funding sources.
  • To ensure that the values and beliefs of social justice underpin all local action and planning for food security.
